He was predeceased by: his wife Genevieve; his daughter Kathy Olinger; and his siblings, Doris VanLann (Earl), Jane VanLaan (Earl), Nancy Fitzsimmons (Jim), Jerry (Eleanore) and Jim Datema (Phyllis).

He is survived by: his children, Richard Datema (Donna) and Betsy VanKalker (Tim); his grandchildren, David Kleiman, Joe VanKalker (Challen), Maggie Pallone (Dominick), Dan Kleiman, Charlie VanKalker (Elly) and Peter Datema (Christie); his great grandchildren, Addison, Luke, Lou and Maxwell; and his siblings, Peter Datema (Nancy) and Joyce Wilcox (Royce).
