He was predeceased by: his parents, Joseph D. Leyva, Sr. and Estela Leyva (Pena); his brothers, Ralph Leyva and Paul Leyva; and his siblings-in-law, Douglas Miller, Duane Miller, Linda Leyva and Carmen Leyva.

He is survived by: his wife Dawn Miller; his daughter Tiffany Parrish (Travis); his grandsons, Christian Buniack, Ashton Buniack and Kingsley Leyva; his siblings, Rosie Quinn (Sonny) of Cass City, Rachel Lamoureux (Jerry) of Cass City, Joseph Leyva (Judy) of Mayville and Bill Leyva (Lucia) of Brentwood, CA; and his siblings-in-law, Beverly Leyva of Gagetown, Deb Conley (Tom) of Caro and Dan Miller (Terri) of Albion.
