He was predeceased by : his parents, Arthur Bruens and Laura Bruens; his wife Doris Ellen Ackerman; his children, Linda Bruens and Dick Bruens; his grandsons, Richard Bruens, Jr. and Jason Keesler; his siblings, Velma Bradley, Alta Dokey, Cleo Findley, Rose Williams, Lloyd Hilgendorf, Arthur Bruens and Merle Bruens; his daughter-in-law Debbie Bruens; his brother-in-law Barney Smith; and his great-nephew William Gibson.
He is survived by : his children, Karen Smith (James), Janice Knapp, Laura Keesler, Kacie Leach (Jimmy), Michael Knapp (Nancy), Wilson "Butch" Wheatley, Dale Bruens (Sandy) and Don Bruens; his siblings, Loretta Smith, Kay Bruens and Gordon Bruens; his close friend Esther Morey; his niece Penny O'Neill; and also, Susan Frost and George VanScoyk. He is also survived by twenty grandchildren; thirty-six great grandchildren; several great great grandchildren.
The family prefers contributions in memory of Zip be made to his son, Dale Bruens, to assist with the cost of the headstone.
