She was predeceased by: her parents, Eugenie "Jean" Pearl Sovey (Lark) and Carl Orville Van Luke; her son James Christopher Van Riper; her brother David Orville Van Luke; and her stepfather Ed Sovey.

She is survived by: her significant other John Hull Van Riper; her children, Jody Van Riper (Libby Roach), Jonathan Van Riper (Jennifer), Julia Van Riper and Jemimah; her grandchildren, Isabella, Nicolaus and Abigail Van Riper; her pets, Newman, Winnie and Polly; her sister Nancy Lee (Earl); and her caregiver Elyssa. She is also survived by her nieces and nephews.
