He was predeceased by: his parents, Harry Whitmarsh and Esther Whitmarsh (Eklund); his parents-in-law, George and Annie Hallstrom; his siblings, Bruce Whitmarsh (Ruth), Joan Nystrom (Carl "Buck") and Harriett Bartlett; and his in-laws, Wilbert "Wieb" Maki, John Uskoski, Richard Hallstrom (Alice), Willard "Bill" Hallstrom, Jeanne Wiitanen and Elizabeth "Liz" Hallstrom.
He is survived by: his wife Mary Jane Whitmarsh (Hallstrom) of Chatham; his children, Brenda James, Sr. (Michael) of Chatham, Dawn Blake (Billy) of Dayton, OH, Paul Whitmarsh (Connie) of Chatham, Amy Whitmarsh of Chatham and David Whitmarsh of Chatham; his brothers, Roger Whitmarsh (Janet) and Mark Whitmarsh (Jackie); and his in-laws, Robert Bartlett, Violet Maki-Makinen (Allen), Helen Uskoski, Kenneth Hallstrom, Tina Hallstrom and Ron Wiitanen (Hester). He is also survived by fifteen grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 14th 2025 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Bowerman Funeral Home (302 E Superior St, Munising, MI 49862). A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 14th 2025 at 1:00 PM at the same location.
