He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert Karis and Lydia Karis (Schmidt); his wife Barbara A. Jarembo; his son Michael Gilbert; and his siblings, Erma Brevis (Clare) and Carl Karis.

He is survived by: his children, William Karis (Jeanette) of Spokane, WA, James Gilbert (Susan) of Spaulding Township, Gloria Hanes of Montrose, Alan Karis (Beverly) of Frankenmuth and Kathy Hudson of Oakley; and his daughter-in-law Janet Gilbert of Curran. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
