He is survived by: his children, Lori Thompson-Heinze, Michael Thompson (Nola) and Jennifer Varney (Cary); his grandchildren, Gage Passick (Mayte), Logan Whitaker (Cassandra), Mackenzie Thompson, Grant Voss and Landon Whitaker; his cousin Kate Shayler (Chuck); his nieces and nephews, Gene Berg (Karen), George Hinkle (Tina), Sue Manderbach (Mike), Tammy and Mark Shea; and his brother Marvin (Joy Thompson).
In lieu of flowers, he encouraged acts of kindness toward others.
