He was predeceased by: his wife Judy Kaye Bates; and his parents, John Bates and Gladys Bates. He is survived by: his children, Lori Evans (Stephen), Melanie Pace (Scott) and Brian Bates (Trisha Cate); his grandchildren, Rachel Gonzales (Wayne), Kristin Ogg (Nathan), Jenny Evans, Eric Pace (Jackie), Meghan Slot (Andrew), Daniel Pace (Kaitlyn), Keith Bates and Kaley Bates; his siblings, Michael Bates (Debbie) and Mary Helen Terpstra; and his sister-in-law Cheryl White. He is also survived by his wife, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
