With profound sadness, we say goodbye to Lionel Joseph Montagne (Clinton Township, Michigan), whose vibrant spirit touched the lives of many. Lionel left this world on August 28, 2025 at the age of 105, leaving a void in the lives of so many people. You can send your sympathy in the guestbook provided and share it with the family.
He was predeceased by: his parents, Edward Montagne and Irene Montagne of Detroit, MI.; his former wife Ellen Martin Montagne; his son John; his siblings, Edward, Arthur, Robert Montagne and Germaine Canar; and his son-in-law Frank Samborski.
He is survived by: his wife Helena VandenBussche Montagne; his children, Patricia Samborski, Kathleen Czubik (Gregory), James Montagne (Juanita), Barbara Koch, Judith Zedan (Louis), Mariann Montagne (Robert Herrboldt) and William Montagne (Kelly); and his stepdaughters, Chantal VandenBussche (Debbie), Anne VandenBussche (Frank Delaney), Antoinette Abud (Paul Kerby) and Yvette Belloli (Bob Schmidt). He is also survived by 26 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.
The lying in state was held on Tuesday, September 2nd 2025 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church (22412 Overlake St, St Clair Shores, MI 48080). A funeral Mass was held on Tuesday, September 2nd 2025 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at the same location. A burial was held on Wednesday, September 3rd 2025 at 10:00 AM at the Resurrection Cemetery (18201 Clinton River Rd, Clinton Twp, MI 48038).
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, University of Detroit Jesuit High School or The Solanus Casey Center.
