He was predeceased by: his parents, Walton Smolarek and Genevieve Smolarek; his son-in-law Donald Hornberger; and his brother Michael Smolarek. He is survived by: his children, Kimberly Hornberger and Gregory Smolarek (Wendy); his grandchildren, Justin Smolarek (Sarah), Jenna Burns (Zac), Nicholas Hornberger (Sarah) and Jessica Smolarek; his great grandchildren, Leo Smolarek, Kepa Smolarek and Barrett Burns; and his sisters, Sandra Ugo (Paul Simms), Mary Jo Smolarek and Danette Gurzell (Alan). He is also survived by many nieces, nephews.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 19th 2026 from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the Resurrection Funeral Home (40800 Hayes Rd, Clinton Twp, MI 48038). A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 19th 2026 at 4:00 PM at the same location.
