He was predeceased by: his parents, David Gates and Marion Gates. He is survived by: his wife Ruth Gates; his sisters, Julie Zimmer (Randy), Heather Gates and Marilyn Gates (Chuck Harnes); and his sisters-in-law, Sibyl McBride (Richard) and Julia VanHamm (Edwin). He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
