He was predeceased by: his parents, Elmer Kern and Florence Kern (Murphy); his siblings, Michael Kern (Carol) and Beverly LeClair (Craig); and his niece Louann Kalaquin.

He is survived by: his wife Patsy Kern; his children, Christopher Kern (Angela) and Loralee Pillsbury (Michael); his grandchildren, Amber Kern (Giles), Ashtyn Kern, Keith Pillsbury and Patricia Pillsbury; his great grandchild Finley Weiss; and his siblings, Barbara Johnson (Ron) and Bob Kern (Cheri). He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Messiah Lutheran Church.
