He was predeceased by: his father Richard McCartney; his son Tim McCartney; his mother Virginia Francis McCartney Hoekzema (Francis); his stepfather Dr. George Hoekzema; his brother Craig McCartney; and his stepbrother David Hoekzema.
He is survived by: his wife Valerie McCartney; his children, Amanda McCartney (Tony Holt) of Tempe, AZ, Alexander McCartney (Janessa Yow) of Kingston, TN and Kim McCartney of Mendon, MI; his grandchildren, Ryan McCartney and Arrionna Day; his sister Carol (Ken Roberts) of Stratford; and his stepbrother Peter Hoekzema (Eva) of Harlingen, TX.. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews.
In Lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in memory of John be mailed to WGVU Public Media (wgvu.org) or the American Heart Association.
