He is survived by: his children, Joseph Schafer of Jackson, MI, Katrina Rewers of Oakdale, CT, Laurie Auerbach (Mitchell) of Plainfield, IL and Tracy Schafer of Virginia Beach, VA; his sister Janice Schafer of Kalamazoo, MI; his stepbrother Robert Lenski (Caroline) of Rio Rancho, NM; his brother-in-law Brian Pierce (Tammy) of Hardin, KY; and his grandchildren, Karlee Rewers, Megan Rewers, Izak Schafer, Marissa Schafer, Brenden Auerbach and Addison Auerbach.
