He was predeceased by : his parents, Roy Schafer and Mildred Schafer; his brother James Schafer; his half-brother Arthur Sullivan; and his nephew Earl Schafer.

He is survived by : his children, Gregory Schafer (Tammy), Christine Sandling (Robert) and Kerri Schafer (Greg Cody); and his sister Alice Gage. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandson.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 17th 2024 at 3:00 PM at the Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home (6651 Scott St, Allendale Charter Twp, MI 49401).
