He was predeceased by: his parents, Ira A. Butler and Emily Mae Butler (Paling); and his son Daniel Butler. He is survived by: his wife Mary Jean Butler of Croswell; his children, Leonard Butler of Croswell and Jodie Hendra (Joe) of Applegate; his stepchildren, Mindy Fetting (Tom) of Peck, Marlo Jolley (Brian) of Croswell and Monty Fetting (Tiffney) of Applegate; his grandchildren, Leslie Butler, Aaron Butler (Amanda), Kelli Bishop, Nathan Butler (Kimberly), Rob Butler (Nikki), Danyel Hyde, Talysha VanEenoo (Charlie) and Karysa Jacob (Tony); his stepgrandchildren, Jordan Jolley (Gibby), Jarred Jolley (Kylie) and Jase Jolley; and his friend Bob Burgess. He is also survived by twenty-three great-grandchildren and two stepgreat-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
