He was predeceased by: his parents, George Peterson and Celia Peterson (Mindok); his siblings, Max and Charlotte; his brother-in-law Dwaine "Dobe" Anderson; his parents-in-law, Gilbert and Evelyn Anderson; and his uncle George "Chickee" Mindok (Angie).

He is survived by: his wife Barb; his sons, Patrick Peterson (Maria) of Crystal Falls and Erik Peterson of Crystal Falls; his grandchildren, Laine, Valerie and Grant Peterson; his siblings, Winnie Reeve of Kotzebue, AK and Paul Peterson (Kim) of Bremerton, WA; his siblings-in-law, Al Anderson (Char) and Lori Anderson; and his siblings' children, Robb, Kurt, Brad, Jolene, Tim, Jeanna, Saul, Serah, Silas, Shelly and Meleri.
