He was predeceased by: his parents, Gordon Abernathy and Helen Abernathy (McPherson); and his brother Robert Abernathy. He is survived by: his wife Sandy; his children, Pam Gardner (Steve) and Paul Abernathy; his grandchildren, Brooke VanAlst (Ian), Bailey Gibbs (Eric), Steven Gardner (Nicole), Hannah Connell, Garrett Connell, Kate Abernathy, Gordon Abernathy and Aaron Abernathy; and his great grandchildren, Ella, Owen Gibbs, Kinsley, Everly Gardner, Wesley VanAlst and Bennett. He is also survived by other loving family members and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Outreach East (https://www.outreacheast.org), St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, or Davison Community Foundation to help maintain Abernathy Park.
