He was predeceased by: his wife Donna Jean (Hayes); his son Michael John Brinker; and his father Walter J. Brinker. He is survived by: his daughter Mary Sue Brinker (Roger Dunham); and his grandchildren, Sinda Brinker Nichols (Nicholas Tonks) and Benjamin Hayes Nichols (Ryan Murphy). He is also survived by loving aunts, uncles, and grandparents.
