He was predeceased by: his parents, John Makela and Edna Makela (Luoma); his wife Carole Uitto; his siblings, Willie, John, Helen, Eleanor and Maila; and his stepdaughter Marilee.
He is survived by: his sons, Craig Makela (Melissa) and Ryan Makela; his grandchildren, Dane Wesley, McKenna, Kayla, Breanna and Tasha Paavola (Joe); his great grandchildren, Jeremiah and Rhianne; his stepson Mark Kolehmainen; his brother Ernie Luttinen (Gloria); Carmen St. Peter. He is also survived by Several Nieces, nephews and cousins.
