He was predeceased by: his parents, Hassin Abiney and Mary Abiney (Schoff); his wife Janet Smith; and his siblings, Zeyneb "Ziney" Koster, Fareda Owen, James Abiney, Amos Freestone, Clinton "Duke" Abiney, Ahlie Abiney, Ernest Freestone Sr. and Blossom Cooper.

He is survived by: his daughters, Dixie Tefs (Russell), Teri Abiney and Corrina Ottinger (David); his grandchildren, Heather Swanson, Corey Ottinger (Nikki), Jennifer Hutchins (Norman), Stephanie Humphreys, Chad Ottinger (Jessica) and Tiffany Ottinger; and his brother Pat Abiney (Doris). He is also survived by 12 great – grandchildren.
