He was predeceased by : his father Jerry D. Mitchell; his brother Lonnie P. Mitchell; and his granddaughter Chematia "Tia" Marisin. He is survived by : his mother Rebecca Mitchell (Singer); his wife Mary Mitchell (Armstrong); his children, Ky'sha Johnson (Harold), Douglas Mitchell (Peggy) and Lonnie Mitchell (Deanna Britton); and his siblings, Pamela Mitchell, Kevin Mitchell (Bonita), Lisa Broussard (Paul), Jerri Rice (Myron) and Lorne Mitchell (Nakita). He is also survived by seven grandchildren; 1 great-grandson.
