He was predeceased by: his mother Wilhelmina Herter (Bauer); his son Glen Herter; and his siblings, Ernest, Joseph, Victor, Donald Herter, Nellie Price, Violet Frese, Virginia Hughes and Phyllis Reitz.
He is survived by: his father Henry Herter; his wife Ruth "Joellen" Pierce; his children, Kathy Niebling (Richard), Keith Herter (Kerry) and Beth Daly (Daniel); his grandchildren, Jeff Toy (Stacy), Stacey Toy-Staley, Heather Schalk, Ashley Rodman (Kent), Kassi Herter (Alan Zoller), Sierra DeShone (Nate), McKenzie Herter (Jorge Ruiz), Morgan Adams, Bailey Adams, Jordan Daly (Kayla), Riley Sarmiento (Andres) and Kellyn Daly; and his sisters, Linda Burget and Hedy Taube. He is also survived by twenty-one great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Monday, October 26th 2026 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM and on Tuesday, October 27th 2026 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. A celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, October 27th 2026 at 11:00 AM at the Sister Lakes Community Church (67119 M-152, Dowagiac, MI 49047).
