He was predeceased by: his parents, Clifford Freeland and Alberta Freeland; his wife Nancy Brinker; his grandson James Albert Freeland III; his siblings, Judy Stoutenburg, Ann Whittaker (Don), Cliff Freeland and Ross Freeland; and his brother-in-law Richard Malcolm.

He is survived by: his children, Jimmy Freeland (Emily Askew), Jessica Schroeder (Steve), Jennifer Moran (Duran), Joshua Freeland and Julie Freeland; his grandchildren, Briley, Brayden, Walker, Weston, Michael, Cameron, Carson and Audrey; his sister Penny Malcolm; and his siblings-in-law, Ed Stoutenburg, Lori Freeland, Michael Brinker (Ida), Kevin Brinker and Mary Mayhew (Eugene). He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
