He was predeceased by: his parents, Roy Messink and Della Messink (Christian); his son Christian Bruce Messink; his grandsons, Michael Messink and Kyle Symonds; his daughter-in-law Pam Messink; and his sister Lenora Neal.

He is survived by: his wife Patricia Messink of East Jordan; his children, Karen Louise Symonds (Lee) of East Jordan, Brian Roy Messink (Emma) of Redford and Roy Barron Messink (Alexis) of Florida; his granddaughter Andrea Symonds (Phil Parr); his great grandchild Benson Parr; and his stepchildren, Michael Ruhlman (Barbara) of Charlevoix, Jeani Mead of Florida, Roberta Nemecek (Robert) of East Jordan, Denise Brown (James) of East Jordan, Mary Damery of Alpena, Anthony Ruhlman (Melanie) of South Carolina and Renee Ruhlman (Ben Blecha) of Nebraska. He is also survived by twelve step grandchildren; and nine step great grandchildren.

“My deepest condolences to the family of Roy. I knew Roy (Mr. Messink) growing up as a teenager in the old Detroit neighborhood with Chirs so many years ago. Chris and I were friends and classmates at Cass Tech. I remember Roy as being one of the “cool dads” and appreciated his mentoring and support of the boy scouts.
