He was predeceased by: his parents, Verne Ivan and Cordie Margaret Parling (Cowdrey); his son Rodney Dean "R. D." Parling; and his siblings, Betty King (James), Marjorie Goostrey (Richard), Jack Parling (Evelyn), Melvin Parling (Phyllis) and Donna Parling.
He is survived by: his wife Evelyn Parling; his children, Douglas Parling (Connie) of Alma, MI and Kaye Gardner (Gerry) of East Lansing, MI; his grandchildren, Mickey Parling (Jessica), Michelle Schneider (Brian), Jerrod Gardner and Levi Gardner; his great grandchildren, Jacob, Emilia and Everett; and his brother Donald Parling (Diane). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
