He was predeceased by: his children, Cynthia Cartwright and Craig Cartwright; and his siblings, Daniel, Martha and Joseph.

He is survived by: his friend Frank Bonta; his wife Betty Cartwright (Hulsmeyer) of Eaton Rapids; his children, Lori Maxey (Eric) of Grand Rapids and Bruce Cartwright (Deb) of Littleton, Colorado; his children-in-law, Andrew Curtin of North Yarmouth, Maine and Peggy Cartwright of Mason; his sister Sara Lou; his half-brother Carl (Linda); Betty and Pat. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren.
