He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Delaine Johnson and Jeraldine Johnson; his wife Betsy; his son Bradley Johnson (Kristen); his grandsons, Owen and Angus; his daughter Amanda Johnson Miller (Terence); his grandchildren, Oliver, Maya and Theodore; his son Colonel Nicholas Johnson (Elizabeth); his granddaughters, Caroline and Kathleen; and his sister Jacqueline "Jackie" Johnson. He was also cherished by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Leelanau Conservancy.
