He was predeceased by: his parents, John McGovern and Vivian McGovern; and his siblings, Donald, John "Jack", Loren, Coleen Cline, Sharon DeGrave, Rosemary Snell, Marylou Lorentzen and Edna Fuller.

He is survived by: his children, Tom McGovern (Sally) of Fort Wayne, IN, Marcia Johnson (Scott) of Denver, CO and Bill McGovern (Tricia) of Grand Rapids, MI; his grandchildren, Peter, Margaret, Michael, Monica, Mary, Stephen, Thomas, Kaitlin, Garrett, Sophie and Ryan; his great grandchild Dominic; his niece Julie McGovern; his nephews, Frank Fuller, Jimmy Snell and Scott Snell (Barb); and his great-niece Elizabeth. He is also survived by many other nieces and nephews.
