He was predeceased by: his father Thomas Pietila. He is survived by: his mother Dianne Pietila; his wife Megan Pietila; his children, Brooks, Avery, Nathan and Sophia; his siblings, Jacqueline Heikkinen (John), Kimberly Kastamo (Tim), Jessica Riutta (Ben) and Tedd Pietila (Jill); his in-laws, Randy and Maria L'Esperance; and his siblings-in-law, Brent (Karen), Chris (Kate), David (Karey), Martha, Tyler, Reid, Greta, Neil, Jana, Glen, Trevor, Aila and Jason L'Esperance. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 7th 2025 from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the First Apostolic Lutheran Church (2970 Oak Grove Rd, Howell, MI 48855). A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 8th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the same location.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the family for a later designation.

“There are never words to heal the soul when a child is taken way too soon. TJ just shared with me how he and Matthew decided to have a hockey slap match against his aunt Sue's metal trash bins at her condo when they were kids. The seniors went crazy with the noise, but they never got caught! I told him that it would have been far worse had Diane caught them! We both had a good laugh!
