He was predeceased by : his parents, Roy Helsel and Lula Helsel (Matthews); his brothers, James "Mike" Helsel and Floyd Helsel; and his brother-in-law James Zwerk.

He is survived by : his wife Cynthia Ann Graham; his children, Stephanie Kroesing (John) of Ionia, Tami Lieffers (John) of Belding, Lisa Beagle (Kevin) of Belding, Michael Helsel of Sheridan, Amanda Isaac (Marlin) of Homer and Sam Helsel (Cassandra) of Fenwick; and his sister Dorothea Zwerk. He is also survived by 18 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
