He was predeceased by: his parents, Carl Apple and Eleanor Apple (Polcznski); and his brother Carl Patric Apple. He is survived by: his significant other Cynthia Nill; and his sibling's children, Mary Beth Sims (Duce), Julie Mokma (Pete), Sarah Klenyans (Chris), Mike Apple and Carl Apple Jr. (Erin). He is also survived by many great nieces and nephews, and great- great nieces and nephews.
When Covid hit and the enrollment at the university declined, he was forced to retire from on-line teaching.
