He was predeceased by: his mother Mildred Opal Carpenter (Morse); his wife Joyce Carol Rivett; his father Eugene Carpenter; and his siblings, Signe, James, David and Gary.

He is survived by: his daughter Tracey Malin of Flushing; and his siblings, Tom Carpenter (Donna) of Cheboygan and Phyllis Johnson. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
