He was predeceased by: his parents, Tom Chapman and Beatrice Chapman Sr.; his wife Betty Jean Alexander Chapman; and his parents-in-law, Alfred and Rosa Alexander.
He is survived by: his children, Wilbert Alexander (Sue) of Richmond, CA, Marvin Chapman of Lansing, Mi., Melvin Chapman of Alexandria, Ronnie Ashley of Flint, MI, Rodney Ashley (Marella) of Jacksonville, FL, Debra Rainey of Alexander, LA, Barbara Eli (Blake) of Alexander, LA, Sharon Chapman of Flint, MI and Ilean Kirkland (Rodney) of Flint, MI; his siblings, Laverne Gilbert of Alexandria, LA, Charlie of Leesville, LA and Roosevelt Chapman; and his friends, Waymon Johnson and Betty Snell. He is also survived by 34 grandchildren, 60 great-grandchildren, 20 great-great grandchildren, 10 great- great- great grandchildren.
