He was predeceased by: his parents, Burnett Vernon and Jane Elaine Shears (Dill); his son Kory Burnett Shears; his grandson Axel Burnett Shears; his son-in-law Deverin Simons; and his siblings, Judy Brugel, Joanne Sishco, Karen Gebhart, Bill Shears and Brian Shears.

He is survived by: his children, Brent Shears of Cass, Kari Swanson (Jeff) of Grant and Kayla Tovar (Amador) of Fremont; his former wife Pamela Bryant (Malcolm) of Sanford, Michigan; and his sister-in-law Chris Shears of Cedar Springs. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren & 2 great-grandchildren.
