She was predeceased by: her father Garrett DeVries; her husband Dick Balkema; her son Tom Balkema; and her grandson John Luke. She is survived by: her sons, Jim Balkema (Mary), Chris Balkema (Karen), Richard Balkema (Charlene) and Peter Balkema (Katie); her daughter-in-law Joni Balkema; and her siblings, Hendrik DeVries (Judy), Robert DeVries (Brenda), Ellen Gehrman (Dave) and Richard DeVries (Jill). She is also survived by 18 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren.
Memorials may be directed to St. Jude Children's Hospital.
