He was predeceased by : his parents, John Cawley and Erma Cawley (Tyler); and his brothers, John (Pat), James and Joseph Cawley.

He is survived by : his former life partner Emma L. Bommarito; his wife Elsie Schrader; his daughter Mary Ursul (Daniel); and his grandchildren, Spencer Ursul (Jourdan) of Grand Rapids, Mallory Ursul of Boston, Massachusetts., Jane (Lee), Stage, Gail Skerrett, Jill Smith, Alex, Travis, Koa, David Schrader (Tina) and Rob Schrader (Cyndi).
