Edward J. Cranson Obituary
Edward "Eddie Joe", Cranson, known to family and friends as Ed, passed away on May 20, 2026, at Corewell Health System in Troy, Michigan, at the age of 76. He was born on March 24, 1950, in Charlotte, Michigan, to the late Bryce and Patricia (Wohlscheid) Cranson. Ed grew up with the values of hard work, loyalty, and family that remained with him throughout his life. After graduating, he joined the U.S. Army, beginning a chapter of service that reflected his sense of duty and commitment.
Ed built a long and respected career as an excellent drywall finisher, working in many states and earning the appreciation of those who knew the quality of his work. He took pride in doing a job well, and his skill, dependability, and strong work ethic were evident to all who worked alongside him. His career was a reflection of the steady and capable man he was, and he was known for bringing care and craftsmanship to every project.
On September 1, 1989, he married the former Carolyn Sue Crover, and she survives him. Their marriage was a source of love, companionship, and shared memories over the years. Ed was a devoted husband, and his family meant everything to him. He is also survived by his sisters, Barbara (Jim) Sleight, Mary Riddle (Cliff Hengslach), and Vickie Cranson. He leaves behind one son, Chad Cranson, along with three grandsons, Dakota Joe, Chase, and Justice Cranson, his wife and daughter. He is also survived by three stepchildren, Donny, Carrie Lynn Simpkins and husband, and Annette May DeVinny, along with their children, including two sons and one daughter, and one son and two daughters. Ed was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Lonnie Joe Cranson, a sister-in-law, Margaret Harbick and two nephews, Eric Houghtalin and Jesse Rohdy.
Ed enjoyed the simple pleasures in life, especially fishing, hunting and golfing. These interests gave him time to relax, enjoy the outdoors, and share good times with others. He was a man who appreciated friendship, laughter, and the comfort of being around those he loved. Those who knew him will remember him as loving, kind, and funny, with a warm presence that could brighten a room and a personality that made others feel welcome.
His life was one of dedication to family, service, and honest work. He will be remembered for the strength of his character, the pride he took in his work, and the love he shared with those closest to him. Ed's memory will live on in the hearts of his wife, children, grandchildren, sisters, extended family, and friends, all of whom were blessed to know him.
A Memorial Service will be held June 12, 2026, at 1:00 pm from the Gladwin Church of Christ with Pastor Tony Reynolds presiding.
