Robert J. Watkins Obituary
Robert "Bob" J. Watkins, age 58, of Gladwin, Michigan, passed away peacefully at his residence on August 22, 2026. Bob was raised in Gaines, Michigan, son of Robert and Nicki Townsend and James Watkins.
Bob was a self-taught mason and a talented concrete finisher who built a respected career as a self-employed tradesman in the central Michigan area. Through his skill, dedication, and pride in his work, he earned the trust and admiration of many. He had a natural ability to work with his hands and took great satisfaction in creating lasting results. In addition to his masonry work, Bob enjoyed woodworking, where his creativity and patience were reflected in the projects he made.
Above all else, Bob cherished his family and friends. He found great happiness in spending time with those he loved and in sharing life's everyday moments with them. He especially enjoyed hunting, fishing, relaxing outdoors, having a drink, and attending rodeos. These were the times that brought him peace and joy, and they reflected the easygoing spirit that so many will remember. Bob had a way of making others feel welcome, and his friendship was steady, sincere, and deeply valued.
Bob is survived by his son, Joseph "JJ" Watkins, and his granddaughter, Ryannon. He is also survived by his stepfather, Robert "Bob" Townsend; his siblings, Angela (John Moore) Asa, Brian Watkins, and Selina Robinson; and his brothers-in-law, Jeff Taylor and Adam Coolich. He also leaves behind his former wife, Jackie Watkins, and special friends Mike Shedden and Barb Hunter and Malanna. His family and friends will remember him with love and gratitude for the many ways he touched their lives.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Nicki Townsend, and his sisters Monica Coolich and Rebecca Taylor. Their memories remained close to his heart, and he carried the bonds of family with him throughout his life.
Bob's life was one of quiet strength, steady devotion, and meaningful connection. He will be remembered for his hardworking nature, his creative spirit, and the kindness he showed to others. Though his time here has come to an end, the legacy he leaves behind will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. His family takes comfort in knowing that he is now at peace, and they will forever cherish the memories of his life, his laughter, and his love.
