Ronald Smith Obituary

Ronald James Smith, of Gladwin, Michigan, passed away surrounded by the love of his family. Born on February 2, 1948, in Mt. Clemens, Michigan, Ron lived a life defined by kindness, creativity, adventure, and a deep love for those around him.

Ron was a talented painter and artist whose appreciation for nature and beauty could be seen in everything he created. He possessed an entrepreneurial spirit, an adventurous mind, and a genuine enthusiasm for life. Those who knew Ron will remember his warm heart, his generosity, his sense of humor, and his ability to make others feel welcome and loved.

On January 8, 2015, Ron married the love of his life, Jo Ann Morgan Smith, in Tawas, Michigan. Together they shared many happy years filled with love, laughter, family, and new adventures.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents, John "Jack" Smith and Beatrice Smith; his brother, Norman Smith; his daughter, Sandra Gasior (Don); and his faithful companion, Toby.

He is lovingly survived by his wife, Jo Ann Smith; his children, Roger Smith, Tracy Kahnt, Eugene Osantowski, Andrea Davis (Kia), Daniel Osantowski (Eileen), and Lindsay Smith; and his stepchildren, Heather Casey (Robert), Hope Williams (Jason), and Denny Morgan.

Ron was a proud grandfather to Ean Osantowski (Maddy), Kiley Lauretti (Timothy), Marisa Kahnt, Kurt Conner Kahnt, Jenna Sakofske, Darryl McGhee, Donovan Gasior, JT Huff (Rae), Eric Huff, Samantha Hugan (Michael), Jacob Williams (Samantha), Jace Williams (Katie), and Dylan Williams. He was also blessed with many great-grandchildren, including Aubree, Hayden, Elliot, Lilliana, Sophia, Violet, Remington, Leo, Benjamin and Ben, with baby Jackson (Kiley and Timothy Lauretti) coming December 2026.

Ron is also survived by his brothers and sisters, Kathleen Gillespie (Jeff), Connie Deyak (Mike), and Donald Smith (Kathy), as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, friends, and his cherished dogs, Lulu and Tucker.

Ron's legacy lives on through the family he cherished and the artwork he created. He approached life with curiosity, courage, and a desire to embrace every new adventure that came his way. His kindness, warmth, and adventurous spirit touched countless lives and will never be forgotten.

Though he will be deeply missed, his love and memory will remain forever in the hearts of all who knew him.
