Thomas L. Howell Obituary
Thomas Lee Howell, 83, Of Gladwin, Mi. passed away peacefully in his sleep the morning of August 17, 2026 after a long battle with Parkinson's and Dementia. Tom was born in Detroit, Mi. to the late John Thomas Howell and Lee Emma (Skinner) Howell on December 5, 1943. He was a Vietnam era Veteran, serving in the United States Navy from January, 1963 until being honorably discharged in October, 1967.
On August 21, 1965, he married the late Sandra Kay Maple. They had, and raised 4 children together, enjoying almost 60 years together at the time of her death.
Tom retired from a 35 year career at Chryslers as an inspector. Upon his retirement in 2001, he and Sandy moved to Gladwin, Mi. where they resided until their ascents into heaven.
Tom was a member of the Gladwin Church of Christ and the Moose Club.
He will be remembered for his love of spending time with family and friends, the outdoors, fishing, playing guitar, playing baseball, gardening, wood working, trivia and crossword puzzles.
Tom is survived by his daughters Tammy Howell, Sheila (David) Novak, and Judy Howell, his son Thomas Howell, grandchildren David (Bryanna) and Sara and his great-grandchildren Shawn, Avery, Case, Canaan, Harrison, and Atlee.
He was preceded in death by his wife Sandy, his siblings Iva Mae and Landon and his best friend and brother-in-law, Junior.
Tom's celebration of life will be held on Saturday, September 12, 2026 at the Gladwin Church Of Christ, 425 E. Grout St., Gladwin, Mi. 48624. Visitation will be from 11AM to 12PM, with a service from 12PM to 1PM, a luncheon immediately following and then his burial at the Grout Township cemetery.
Tom has always been a loving and caring supporter of his family and while discussing funeral arrangements, he asked that anyone wanting to express sympathy for the family's loss, in lieu of flowers and/or memorabilia, please consider making a donation to his daughter Judy who is currently battling breast cancer.
