He was predeceased by : his parents, Melvin G. Smith Sr. and Margaret Mary Smith (Diem); his wife Terry Smith; his brother Duncan Smith; his brothers-in-law, Douglas Vickery and Grant Vickery; his sisters, Margaret Fifelski and Francis Clark; and his nephews, Brian Vickery and Burleigh "Buzz" Wilson.

He is survived by : his sons, Patrick Zoerman (Melinda), Bart Zoerman (Angela), Steven Zoerman (Lindy Bryant) and Matthew Smith (Amber); his grandchildren, Zach Zoerman, Trey Zoerman (Paige), Ian Zoerman, Cory Zoerman, Lyndsey Zoerman, Keyana Walker, Keenan Walker, Kade Walker, Matthew Smith and Samantha Smith; his sisters, Susan Tucker (Thomas) and Jayne Graham; his brother-in-law James Vickery (Barb); and his niece Ginger Graham. He is also survived by other many nieces and nephews.
