He is survived by: his wife Karen; his sons, Howard Matties II (Sheryl) and Martin Matties (Lori); his grandchildren, Rachel Susan Paulson (Bill), Heather Elise Matties and Lincoln Daniel Matties; his great grandchild Easton John Paulson; and his siblings, Lillie B. Matties and Dudley Matties.
