He was predeceased by: his father E. Claude Carter. He is survived by: his mother Georgia Carter (Shippy); his children, Nathan Carter (Kristen) of Oxford, Joshua Carter of Grand Haven, Brett Carter (Madison) of Grand Haven, Kelsey Carter of San Jose, CA, Jacob Carter of Grand Haven, Mackenzie Carter of Grand Haven and Gabrielle Carter of Grand Haven; his grandchildren, Grant, Hendrix, Boone, Quinn, Dean and Crew; and his siblings, Claudia London (Steve), Daniel Carter (Dawn) and Tim Carter (Michelle). He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
