He was predeceased by: his parents, Percy Tester and Iva Mary Tester (Shoup); his grandmother Holcomb; and his siblings, Harry Tester, Ellen Crane, Martha Goodrich and Mary Royston.
He is survived by: his wife Carol McLeod; his children, Ronald Tester (Teresa), Tamera Smith (Lee) and Gordon Tester (Mary); his grandchildren, Bethany Aliberti, Seth Tester (Heidi), Jared Tester, Larisa Carlon (Chris), Andrew Smith (Jenny), Adam Tester (Christy), Gordon Tester (Katie), Jessica Schaut (Louis) and Nathaniel Tester (Angela); his great grandchildren, Jamison Bell, Ashton Bell, Payton Bell, Rocko Kirkpatrick, Taegan Carlon, Ryder, Race Smith, Conan, Ronin Tester, Malcolm Schaut and Tobias Langdale; and his siblings, Eva Wymer and Harold Tester.
A memorial tribute, from Facebook's Grand Marais Sno-Trails Association, described Herman as a pioneer of the Grand Marais snowmobile community—always ready to help others enjoy the trails he loved, "Herman was the heart of the Grand Marais snowmobile community.
