He was predeceased by: his parents, Adrian Popering and Lucy Van Popering; his son Douglas Allan; his brother Wilbur; and his siblings-in-law, Norma and Leslie Meyering.
He is survived by: his wife Arlene J. Van Popering; his daughters, Brenda Vander Ploeg (Dan), Trish DeVries (Jeff) and Stephanie Montsma (Steve); his sister Carole Meyering; his sister-in-law Sue Lynema; and his grandchildren, Rob Dykstra (Kelly) and Michelle Timmerman (Dan). He is also survived by his 10 great-grandchildren.
