He was predeceased by: his parents, Earl Herweyer and Gladys Herweyer; his parents-in-law, Boyd "Al" and Carolyn Tacoma; his son Robert Herweyer; and his grandson Robert.
He is survived by: his wife Betsy Herweyer (Tacoma); his grandchildren, Joshua, Jennifer, Joel, Julie, Joy (Robert Paul), Mitchell, Megan, Andrew, Elizabeth, Rachel and Thomas Westrate (Elliot); his sisters, Sally Rodriguez (Ray), Marcia Bultman (Howard) and Grace Oudbier (Mike); and his brothers-in-law, Andrew Tacoma, Daniel Tacoma (Juli) and Timothy Tacoma (Sue). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
