He was predeceased by: his parents, Al Preston and Vicky Preston; his brother Paul Preston; and his brother-in-law Steve Sandholm. He is survived by: his wife Evelyn; his children, Shelly Ford (Jaime Jimenez) and Jason Preston (Melissa); his grandchildren, Chris Ford (Lauren), Jeff Ford (Justin), Cassie Hirdes (Eli), Jakob Preston (Kira), Julia Preston (Chris) and Camden Ayotte; and his great grandchildren, Emma and Kinsley.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Emmanuel Hospice or Tunnel to Towers.

“I met Dan in 2016 on the job site One day I was working along side Dan and we got talking fishing in Canada the stories my dad would tell me on Lake KAGIANAGAMI. Dan said I been to that lake with a few of my friends Ron Hofstra and dick griffen I couldn’t believe Dan knew the men my dad knew . From that day forward Dan and I would become close and he would become like a second father to me . He showed me the place I consider the best perch spot in the whole state MONA LAKE I will miss you”
