She was predeceased by: her parents, Archie Heslinga and Dorothy Heslinga (VandenBerg); her husband George Gaastra; her sister Arlene; her brother-in-law Joseph Davidoski; and her stepfather Andrew Lane.

She is survived by: her children, Greg Gaastra (Stephenie) and Betsy Groendyk (Randy); her grandchildren, Tyler Gaastra (Marylynn), Tricia VanderHaar (Brett), Logan Gaastra (Elizabeth), Lily Gaastra, David Groendyk (Anaite), Sara Bakker (Jordan) and Kristin Alyousif (Abdullah); and her great grandchildren, Elliott, Joaquin, Sofia, Mila, Ada and Genevieve. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
