He was predeceased by: his parents, Sidney Holwerda and Agnes Holwerda (Huizinga); his siblings, Jane Holwerda, Jack Holwerda (Myrtle) and Sidney J. Holwerda; and his brother-in-law Sid Helmus.

He is survived by: his wife Nancy Joan Tiesma; his daughters, Pam Holwerda of Gerald Holwerda, II and Lisa Dekker (Roger); his siblings, Elaine Helmus and Tom Holwerda (Carole); his siblings-in-law, Liz Holwerda, Robert and Joyce Tiesma; his grandchildren, Stacey Bergsma (Peter), Kayleigh Cull, Rose Cull (Casey Hockenberry), Amberle Dekker, Brianne Dekker, Erica Fencil (Tom), Corbin Holwerda, Cassandra Holwerda, Nicolas Holwerda and Jacob Holwerda; his great grandchildren, Benjamin, Charlotte, Sophia, Madelyn, Harrison Bergsma and Drayce Hockenberry; Mary Holwerda and Wynn Cull (Laurie).
